Using a best adult scooter is one of the best ways to keep someone with limited mobility active. These devices can be used to help an individual get around the home, a shopping store, or around the park. For the most part, no matter where you want to go, a scooter can take you there.
For those that are unfamiliar with electric mobility scooters and are shopping for one for the first time, it can be a little bit overwhelming. There are a lot of different scooters with different features and specifications, so if you are unfamiliar with scooters it is sometimes a little worrisome, but there is no reason it should be.
The first step should be analyzing the rider and where the rider will be using the scooter. The main concern is the weight of the rider, because some scooters are designed to support more weight than others. When looking at scooters, you will need to always consider the weight capacity of the scooter. You always want to have some wiggle room as well, so you can carry your groceries or shopping goods on the scooter without worrying about overloading it. If you anticipate any weight gain, you should also consider this when you considering the riders weight.
Where You Are Going
Aside from the rider’s weight, it is important to know where you will be using the scooter. Consider if you will be using it around the house, over paved areas, or over un-paved ground. Generally most scooters are designed to perform amiably over paved or hard surfaces, but not all can be used over rougher ground or will perform the same when used on softer surfaces like walking trails or grass.
3 Wheeled or 4 Wheeled
3 wheeled scooters are popular and offer very good maneuverability. They can turn in tight quarters and are great for use around the home or other areas where you might be working with limited space.
4 wheeled scooters are not as maneuverable, but they offer better balance and stability than a 3 wheeled scooter does. 4 wheeled scooters will usually perform better outdoors and also can support more weight than a 3 wheeled scooter.
The Different Types of Scooter
Travel scooters are very popular and are designed to be very lightweight and easy to transport. They can be quickly disassembled into several pieces that are easy to manage and can be placed into a car very easily. To achieve their light weight, these scooters are usually lacking in special features, have a reduced battery life, and also can’t support as much weight. Most of these scooters are 3 wheeled, but there are also 4 wheeled travel scooters available.
Traditional scooters are not quite as lightweight as their travel scooter cousins. They can be disassembled, but their individual pieces can weigh much more. They are able to support a good deal more weight and also have a lot of extra features that make them more comfortable or functional. They have an increased range and top speed as well.
Heavy duty scooters are one of my favorite types of mobility scooter. These scooters are designed to be rough, durable, and very quick. They can be driven over pretty much any type of terrain and are able to support much more weight than other scooters. Like the other types of scooters, they can be broken down into more manageable pieces, but often the lightest piece weighs over a hundred pounds.
